Key to the Philosophy of Chiropractic is the concept: "ADIO"
Read more here about the philosophy of health I subscribe to and recommend for you.
Any philosophy can have nested heirarchies of philosophy within it. And so, within a more general philosophy of health there can be a component philosophy of Chiropractic.
The idea of there being a distinct philosophy underpinning Chiropractic is ubiquitous to the profession – one of three components parts that define Chiropractic itself (the other two being Chiropractic Art and Chiropractic Science).
A guiding principle and primary concept of the philosophy of Chiropractic is often identified by the abbreviation – ADIO.
"ADIO" stands for Above-Down, then Inside-Out.
ADIO is simple and widely applicable and yet, it can have profound implications should you choose to explore it in depth…we expand upon it further in the Why Us page where we explain aspects of our MODEL of care.
One aspect of this ADIO concept is that we ARE built for quality of life to be amazing – and as long as our body gets what it needs, and as long as there’s no interference from the outside in – this will be the way life and health express.
This concept is a deep part of a chiropractor's focus - adjusting subluxations
to improve the flow of information that in turn assists clients to improve their Quality of Life.
Above-Down
The above-down component refers to the flow of intelligence, information and control from the brain and central nervous system to ever other cell, organ and tissue in your body.
This flow is often described as being via a unit of information called the “mental impulse,” which is actually different from the electrical signal passing along your nerves.
There is some basic science that shows that in some cases the brain responds to an input faster that the speed of nerve message propagation!
Inside-Out
The inside-out component relates to all states of health, illness, dysfunction and quality of life being dependant on how well our body is coordinating and regulating itself and is dependent on the body’s ability to accurately perceive and respond to environmental stimuli and triggers.
If the body’s perception of self is warped or inaccurate, full vibrant health is just not possible!
What it also means is that a ‘band-aid’ intervention from the ‘outside’ will only ever be a stop-gap. To truly regain or enhance health and quality of life – is an inside job; dependent on your body to heal, govern, regulate and coordinate itself.
There are post-graduate chiropractic diplomates that explore the philosophy of chiropractic – this is just a taste of why I've described chiropractic elsewhere on this site as having a clear, distinct, well-defined, and congruent philosophy!
